Comfort is calling in Chanel’s Coco Crush collection

The old adage of ‘beauty is pain’ is too often true. But it is something that Chanel has never subscribed to, and certainly not in the latest iteration of the maison’s Coco Crush Fine Jewellery collection. Characterised by the quilted motif first seen on the Chanel 2.55 handbag, the jewellery’s intersecting lines have been a symbol of connection since its naissance back in 2015. 

While that messaging persists, this collection is more so about the self. Its bracelet, necklaces and earrings are made for living in, moving and asserting one’s own power. As such, comfort is the priority. It is less about ornamentation than acting as a second skin; the type of jewellery that can be worn every day, but still makes an impact. 

The close-fitting necklace and supple choker hug the skin in a way that will make you forget you’re wearing them, but onlookers certainly will not. This is because the matelassé mesh slides and shifts with movement rather than against it. The same can be said of the new cuff in Beige Gold, whose curvature is designed for maximum comfort.

Equally, Coco Crush’s newest earrings are made with practicality in mind. Named the ‘transformable supple earrings’, they can be worn in two ways: either as dangling, diamond-encrusted attention grabbers, or in a shorter style that offers a more subtle pop of je ne sais quoi.

Just as Coco Chanel herself became renowned for swapping corsets for jerseys, the maison’s Creation Studio continues this ethos in Coco Crush’s newest pieces. They ask nothing of the body, but give everything back, founded on the principle that comfort is power.
