Since it burst onto the nightlife scene in 1991, Ministry of Sound has been a mecca for London’s electronic music lovers. During a period of closure in January, the club’s main room, The Box, was refurbished and fitted with immersive light installations and a new sound system. Its longstanding Martin Audio system has been replaced by a brand-new KV2 sound system installed by Patchwork London, which promises (and delivers) a rich listening experience.
“The Box has always set benchmarks, particularly around sound”, Matt Long, Club Director of Ministry of Sound said. “This renovation allows us to reset that standard for the next generation to continue evolving the space without losing its identity.”
The layout of The Box has also changed with the DJ booth lowered to the level of the dancefloor. It is designed as a modular structure and can be adapted for multiple stage formats. A new elevated stage area has increased the capacity of the room to 200 people, reshaping the flow of the space.

Other refurbishments include a state-of-the-art overhead light installation led by LucidCreates. The multi-layered structure is made from reflective frameworks, integrated video screens and LED bar technology, creating an immersive visual experience.
“To ensure the design feels cutting-edge whilst still retaining its edge, we’ve leant heavily into industrial textures and forms to inform the overall look of the space – steering away from an overly clean, overly manicured aesthetic,” Chris Carr, founder of Lucid Creates, added. “The result is something that will still feel distinctively ‘The Box’ but in a really interesting and imaginative way.”
The Box set the tone for a new era with their reopening parties on 30 and 31 January that included sets from Kölsch, Pete Tong, Lauren Lo Sung and other guest DJs.
The party has only just started as a series of events are planned across this year featuring heavy-weight artists to celebrate the club’s influence on the city’s musical identity.
