Roger Vivier’s new campaign with Eva Green is blooming cinematic

The Parisian shoe brand pairs up with the French actor for ‘La Rose Vivier’.

Roger Vivier has never been afraid to get a little theatrical. The Parisian house built its reputation on shoes that made women feel like they were walking on art, so it makes perfect sense that creative director Gherardo Felloni would turn a campaign into an actual film.

La Rose Vivier, starring icon of French cinema Eva Green, is a surreal fashion fantasy. Green wears Virgule slingbacks as she stands before a canvas of painted roses in a Parisian palace and disappears into the painting in a Alice in Wonderland-esque style.

For the collection itself, Felloni’s imagination ranges from reinterpretations of thorns to reinvented maison classics. He’s taken the rose — which has been popping up in Vivier designs since the 1940s — and given it a proper attitude. The redesigned Talon Épine heels, for example, come with thorns nestled against silk petals, while the rose ballerinas bloom at the toe, and the silk clutch looks like it was plucked mid-bloom.

Felloni also delves into the maison’s archives for the collection, as the Belle Vivier returns in leopard pony calfskin. Meanwhile the latest Viv’ Choc bag offers clean, geometric lines.

It’s Vivier’s theatrical approach to pairing luxury footwear with cinematic flair that proves great shoes sometimes deserve their own starring role.
