Erykah Badu joins forces with Marni for a collection inspired by soul and maximalism

The Italian label has recruited the singer for a co-designed collection as an ode to her personal style.

Erykah Badu has just recently shown off her creative feats at the Met Gala this past Monday, walking the carpet in an all-white beaded and frayed dress by Marni. As fashion fans praise her look, they now get further insight into the creative heights Badu is reaching, as the brand’s creative director Francesco Risso announces they have recruited her for a co-designed collection.

Marni x Erykah Badu sees the singer-songwriter’s venture into design inspired by her eclectic personal style. This collab for Vol. 1 of the FW23 collection will fuse the house’s style with Badu’s, who is known for her broad inspirations like merging bohemia with her heritage, inspiring some of fashion’s top designers with her personal style. The collection builds on Marni Jam, which is a programme created to utilise the multidisciplinary work of their community and enables them to work with other like-minded creatives.

The offering from the ‘On & On’ singer will feature women’s ready-to-wear garments, accessories, and footwear including elements of couture. The pieces span from knit dresses with leather patchwork to oversized blazers and explosions of colour and sequins. Between thick wools and velvets sit satin dresses and thigh-high boots: a true ode to Badu if ever there was one. Framed by soulful maximalism, the Marni x Erykah Badu collection is available for a limited time only and has been introduced in Marni stores across the U.S. The collab is said to be heading to European locations soon.
