Bleu de Chanel has been a men’s perfume staple for a decade and a half, and now they’ve just launched another scent to the collection — Bleu de Chanel L’Exclusif. And exclusif it is. It was crafted under the expert nose of the brand’s perfume creator, Olivier Polge, who describes the scent as “dense sophisticated and complex”.
Scent-wise, the fragrance centers around what Polge calls “majestic” sandalwood. This anchors an intense woody amber note, which the perfumer selected to challenge the status quo about men’s perfumes. The real intrigue in Bleu de Chanel L’Exclusif, though, comes from the cistus labdanum, which adds a sensual leathery note to the perfume.

The bottle deserves a mention too. It’s like an elevated version of its big-brother scents with an even more clean-cut square shape, a blue so deep it’s almost black and an eye-catching chiaroscuro (that’s where light and dark contrast if you aren’t an art grad) effect between bottle and writing.
And for the campaign, Chanel has selected Timothée Chalamet as the face of L’Exclusif. Many would agree the actor is the new modern masculine archetype (Kylie Jenner certainly thinks so), so he is, perhaps, the perfect choice for a scent that switches up what we already know about men’s fragrance.
