WTF happened on the internet this week?

People got rather excited about Aaron Pierre and David Dobrik returned from his two year hiatus absolutely jacked — this is what online culture was saying this week.

David Dobrik came back (and it was scary)

In a tale as old as time, David Dobrik (internet personality and quasi-abuser) returned to the internet after a two year hiatus — with abs! I haven’t watched the video (because I don’t want to) but from what I can tell, Dobrik goes on a kind of grand tour of all his internet pals (everyone from Josh Peck to rowing-superstar Olivia Jade makes an appearance) and takes his top off. Then he leers at them for a while. The pictures posted to Dobrik’s instagram are terrifying, with the YouTuber forcing his gaping smile upon not just IRL mates but us, the unwilling audience. Could it be said that his six-pack is something of a distraction from the 2022 multi-million dollar lawsuit against him? I reckon so. I don’t think that would be a stretch.

The Golden Globes happened

Zendaya flashed her engagement ring, Demi Moore gave a tear-jerking speech and Timothée did some PDA with girlfriend Kylie Jenner. Too much happened at this year’s ceremony to sum things up in a mere few hundred words, so we did a big ol’ deep-dive that you can read over here

The link-up of all link-ups happened

Three weeks ago we were gifted (stroke terrorised) with a collab between Topjaw and @itsbigjohn1 (bosh). This week we got something arguably worse. None other than Thomas Skinner (other bosh guy) and Eating with Tod had a little hangout. If you can’t stomach the actual video, I’ll try summarise. Skinner is characteristically red, sloshing his mug of tea about like it’s him and not some minimum wage worker that will be clearing it up, and for a decent chunk of the video Tod sits out of frame. When the Tod jumpscare finally does come, he’s there in his shit hat, not saying much, but ready to do a huge, sloppy gravy pour. And there’s obviously copious amounts of food on the table — the kind of quantities where you presume at least one of the plates belongs to the cameraman… But it just doesn’t. Sigh.

More importantly, Club Chalamet came out swinging in response to the Golden Globes

Whenever Timothée does, well, anything, the whole of the internet waits with baited breath to see what Simone’s has to say on the matter. Who is Simone, you ask? Simone is the woman behind Club Chalamet, the most dedicated (and unhinged) fan account for the Dune actor. Simone is equal parts neurotic and wise, throwing out tweets that seem a little bit angry at Timothée and, at other times, coming out with wise and salient bangers. “For those of you who engage in ageism, you’re sending out to the universe that you don’t want to live as long as I have,” has to be an all-timer, for instance. Her response to Timothée’s time at the 2025 Golden Globes? More of the same, obviously. “If I could suggest this recalibration for the next several awards show appearances, I would like to see Timothée bring family, close professional friends, or business partners/managers as his guests,” she tweeted. In other words, Timothée lost the award because he brought Kylie Jenner as his date… She truly never misses.

It was Letterboxd wrapped day

For phone-addicted cinephiles, it’s the most important day of the year — not only do you get presented with your own Letterboxd stats, but you get to see what the whole of the annoying community was up to. The main takeaways? The highest rated film of 2024 was Dune: Part Two, with Nosferatu and Anora taking the top spots within their respective genres. The most watched actress was Zendaya, the most watched actor was Willem Dafoe and the prize for the most divisive film went to Harmony Korine’s Aggro Dr1ft — not too much of a surprise. And no, there aren’t any major insights to be gleaned from my own Letterboxd wrapped because I’ve deleted the app from my phone. More on that, here.

The Brewdog supervillain and his missus said something out of touch (again)

You can rely on James Watt, CEO of Brewdog, for shit beer, even shitter establishments to drink said beer in, and for saying pervasively out of touch nonsense. And with his engagement to Made in Chelsea alumni Georgia Toffolo – they’ve basically fused together and become a kind of conservative homogenous glob – things have got even worse. Their latest schtick came in the form of a since-deleted video that made the argument not for a “work-life balance”, but a “work-life integration”. According to Watt and his raspy-voiced beau, clocking off is only something that people who hate their jobs do. There was also something in there about how when Watts’ kids come to stay, they’re pitching business ideas around the dinner table. It was bleak, dystopian and, in terms of cringiness, managed to give that video of him larking about in a helicopter a solid run for its money. As I said, the video has already been deleted, but it was apparently filmed on the same day as the utter tripe below.

Aaron Pierre, that’s Mufasa

Four words that have likely been knocking around your skull for days. Born out of a quasi-ritual that takes place on The Jennifer Hudson Show whereby guests walk down a corridor while people chant some nonsense about them, setting the internet ablaze this week was the time that actor Aaron Pierre (our issue thirty-three cover star) had a go. We don’t really need to go into the intricacies of why this got people talking — there’s a certain je ne sais quoi to his little dance and, well, he’s rather attractive. It’s catchy too!

We went into the Adrien Brody archives

He took home the Golden Globe for his leading performance in Brady Corbet’s The Brutalist, but, according to the online sphere, that’s not altogether exciting in comparison to his 2003 hosting stint in 2003. That set the internet ablaze when it came out of the woodworks and the whole of X watched as Brody did an apparently “improvised” monologue complete with faux Jamaican patois and faux dreads. Rumours then swirled that Brody was subsequently banned from SNL, which he then denied a few days later. Watch the whole excruciating thing here and huge shoutout to our favourite comment, which reads “Chet Hanks stole this guy’s shtick”. Valid.
