Who. What. Where? No. 89

Welcome to HUNGER’s Who. What. Where? Your one stop shop for all the latest and greatest upcoming events and cultural fixes.

First up, it’s over to Swedish denim brand Nudie Jeans, who are throwing a global party to celebrate the launch of their latest silhouette, the Solid Ollie. Dubbed the Nudie Jeans World Tour (obviously) it will consist of thirteen live music events taking place everywhere from Sydney to Stockholm, and a line-up of DJs featuring the likes of Courtney Bailey and Baba Stiltz. In fact, it’s Baba Stiltz that will be doing a cheeky little set at the London edition of the world tour, which is taking place at the Nudie Jeans Repair Shop in Soho. They’ll be music, tunes and the chance to try on some slim fit jeans. Because skinny jeans aren’t that bad.

Next, we’ve got one from Anthony Wilkinson Gallery. Starting from the 16th of November, the Soho gallery will be hosting a solo show from artist George Shaw called “Albion Groans”. An exhibition of paintings and watercolours inspired by William Blake’s epic poem ‘Jerusalem’, anyone popping along can expect to see renditions of typical British scenery, with Shaw revisiting the streets of his childhood. To be honest, we don’t know too much about this one, but from the sole picture released, it looks right up our alley (perhaps literally). “Albion Groans” is on until the 11th of January.

In terms of your music fix, look no further than multi-instrumentalist Ganavya, who’s just announced a new album featuring the likes of Shabaka Hutchings and Esperanza Spalding. If you’re not familiar with Ganavya (you should be), the New York-born, South India-raised and California-based musician has a sound that could be described as spiritual jazz having a little flirtation with south Asian classical music. The Guardian probably put it best after attending one of her gigs, describing her voice as having the kind of “emotional heft that could turn stoics into sobbing wrecks”. Anyway, the upcoming album is called Daughter of a Temple and it drops on November 15th. If you can’t wait until then, check out her performance on Later… with Jools Holland here.

One for our Instagram fashion girlies now. Pickles Knitwear is hosting a pop-up in East London which will give you the chance to get your hands on not just their knitted clobber, but pieces from Good Squish (those hair scrunchies), perfumer Gabar, vintage reseller Daughter of a Hoarder, and plenty more. Taking place in Shoreditch from the 7th to the 10th of November, it’s the perfect opportunity to start your Crimbo shopping early — especially if you’ve got a boatload of annoying friends… Which is likely if you’re thinking of attending this event. No, jokes aside. There’s lots of lovely stuff to peruse. More details here

Last but not least, we’ve got a tasty little event for fans of Deborah Levy, author of Swimming Home and Hot Milk. On the 20th of November, Soho’s Tenderbooks – think rare books for cool kids – will be hosting a book signing with the author to ring in the release of her new collection, The Position of Spoons: And Other Intimacies. If you’re familiar with Levy, you know this will be a goodie — the semi-autobiographical musings share her intimate thoughts and experiences against the backdrop of the muses that have inspired her writing. If you’re a fan of Levy, you’ll also get why you really need to meet her in the flesh. She’ll be there from 6pm to 8pm, and you can find out more details here
