Who. What. Where? No. 127

Kicking things off with some exceptional cuisine. If The Standard’s food and beverage offerings aren’t fabulous enough already, the Double Standard restaurant is spicing things up with a kitchen takeover from Nathaniel Mortley. Fresh from being named “One to Watch” in Condé Nast Traveller’s Top New Restaurants Awards, Natty Can Cook, as the chef is better known, is bringing his acclaimed Caribbean cooking to the Double Standard terrace for two days — Saturday 27 and Sunday 28 September. But, of course, this isn’t your typical Caribbean food. Mortley has built a devoted following by reimagining the cuisine with contemporary twists. Expect dishes like Jerk Chicken Buns, Grilled Lobster Tail with Coconut Rice and the intriguing Guinness Soft Serve Ice Cream, all paired with Eminente Rum cocktails. A perfect way to see out the summer, one might say.

The latest in The North Face’s long list of collabs is one with Dutch artist Johannes Offerhaus, who created a sculpture using the brand’s new SPECTRA® fabric and carried all the materials on foot to install it in nature. It may be a little OTT but it’s a testament to the fabric’s durability. And that’s the cornerstone of the HKe collection — blending top-quality outdoor technology with design (as seen in gear like the Devils Thumb GTX Jacket and Kalix Down Hoodie). But the collaboration is equally about taking a lifestyle angle. Offerhaus’ installation is a reflection on the way that nature and art intersect, something that The North Face parallels in its approach, which gives equal importance to style and practicality, and gives the brand its reputation for blurring the lines between outerwear and streetwear.

From fashion to music, Eades are shedding their post-punk skin on second album Final Sirens Call, diving deeper into the same Americana and ’90s indie influences that could be felt in their 2024 EP, Fight Or Flight. The Leeds quintet recorded these eleven tracks at frontman Harry Jordan’s own Bam Bam studios, arguably making the album their most involved and refined work yet. As for what to expect — standout singles like ‘Did You Read The News?’ still pack hefty choruses, while tracks like ‘Backwards’ show a more plaintive, emotional side to Eades. Final Sirens Call is out via Breakfast Records, with UK tour dates running through October and November for anyone wanting to catch the band’s evolution live.

Ending where we started — with some top-notch hospitality. Though wine tasting might usually carry notes (pun intended) of pretentiousness, Swirlies is different. Coming to east London for a one-night wine event, the capital’s iteration of ‘Swirl School’ will be hosted by Amari (aka VinDealer) at The Snug in One Hundred Shoreditch. It’s three hours of curated wines paired with complementary bites in an intimate setting. And unlike most events of this ilk, the focus is on conversation and community rather than overwrought tasting notes. Much less snooty. It’s taking place Saturday 4 October from 6-9pm for anyone looking for a more relaxed approach to wine culture.
