MVP of the week — Featuring SELETTI x JORDANLUCA and AFROSPORT

Welcome to HUNGER’s Most Valuable Player, the place to find the best things to buy, watch, do, or listen to each week. Forget about the hype, we want to separate what’s hot, what’s not, and what needs to be on your radar…

Following the success of AFROSURF, endorsed by Virgil Abloh, African surf brand Mami Wata have revealed AFROSPORT – The Book – the first project to shine a fresh light on Africa’s rich tapestry of historic and future global influence within the realms of sport, photography, design and culture. With the Africa Cup Of Nations kicking off in 2024, Africa’s youth is reclaiming the international spotlight, and stories of sportspeople like the athlete Caster Semenya are being told for the first time alongside captivating and raw imagery. Meanwhile, the book also contains a selection of Africa’s most promising writers and photographers, alongside interviews with Joakim Noah, Didier Drogba, Dr Gerard Akindes. The book is available for pre-order here, and will be shipped on December 12th.

Next up, Hannah Crosbie and Sophie Wyburd (I’ll Have What She’s Having podcast) have teamed up with Pastaio – the popular Soho fresh pasta restaurant from Stevie Parle – to create a collaboration pasta and wine pairing for Christmas. Available on Pastaio’s Christmas menu now, Sophie’s limited-edition dish pairs Pastaio’s fresh mezze maniche pasta with the festive flavours of sausage, pancetta and chestnut in a white wine and sage sauce, all topped with a crispy rosemary pangrattato. Also, For each plate sold, Pastaio will donate £1 to Refuge. To compliment the limited edition creation, an elegant and fruity Fontodi Chianti Classico has been expertly selected by Hannah and is available on Pastaio’s drinks menu throughout the collaboration.

There’s arguably nothing more British than raving and tea (not simultaneously, of course). And that’s exactly what has inspired the new ‘Meltdown’ collection by SELETTI and JORDANLUCA. Psychedelia adorns the classic tea service form to birth to a selection of trippy mugs, cups, trays, and teapots, whose unruly forms are embellished with a touch of gold. So, if you’re looking to get trippy at your next tea party, the collection is now available in SELETTI stores, online, and through selected retailers.

It’s winter, and it’s the festive period, which means there’s no better time for a cosy pub meal. And you’ll find just that and so much more at the newly refurbished The Bull at Charlbury. The pub, which celebrates British heritage and production, offers a menu that will change constantly, working directly with farms and growers, including a community-supported agriculture project, Kitchen Garden People at Honeydale Farm, which will provide hyper-local leaves, fruit, and vegetables. Meanwhile, if you’re looking for a quaint getaway alongside an incredible meal, there are plenty of options, as the pub and 50-cover dining room will also house 10 en-suite bedrooms with views of the fields.
