FKA Twigs and Nicholas Cage set to play Jesus’ parents in new horror film
FKA Twigs as Jesus’ mother, Mary? Nicholas Cage as his father, Joseph? A horror spin on Jesus’ childhood? It might sound like a fever dream, but it’ll soon become a reality thanks to Lotfy Nathan’s upcoming film, The Carpenter’s Son.
“The Carpenter’s Son tells the dark story of a family hiding out in Roman Egypt,” the official synopsis reads, according to Deadline. “The son, known only as ‘the Boy,’ is driven to doubt by another mysterious child and rebels against his guardian, the Carpenter, revealing inherent powers and a fate beyond his comprehension. As he exercises his own power, the Boy and his family become the target of horrors, natural and divine.”
The movie also stars Noah Jupe and Souheila Yacoub, while Cinenovo and Spacemaker are producing, and shooting begins this summer.
Nathan’s debut feature film, Harka, premiered in Cannes’ Un Certain Regard in 2022. Previously, he directed 12 O’Clock Boys, a 2014 documentary about a young boy in Baltimore who idolises a group of dirt bike riders, which won him the HBO Emerging Artist award.
FKA Twigs has been in her acting era since releasing Caprisongs in 2022. She stars alongside Bill Skarsgård in Rupert Sanders’ remake of the 1994 cult classic The Crow, which is set to release this August. The singer also made headlines recently after she revealed that she has developed her own deepfake version of herself, specifically to interact with fans online.
Meanwhile, Nicholas Cage received critical acclaim for his most recent project, 2023’s Dream Scenario in which he was nominated for Best Actor in a musical or comedy.
