Going to Brighton Pride? Here’s what to expect

It’s, respectfully, the UK’s best Pride and it’s happening this weekend.

Brighton Pride is the UK’s crème de la crème Pride event. It takes place in the UK’s gay capital. It’s by the beach. People go hard on the outfits. It also doesn’t have the horribly stagnated overcrowding that London Pride endures. Equally, it isn’t hosted in a city where half the population are secretly homophobic. Plus, if we’re remembering the real reasons behind Pride — no, not getting absolutely shit faced and vogueing (although, that too) — Brighton Pride has also raised over a million pounds of money for local LGBT+ charities over the years. It’s taking place this weekend, from 2 to 3 August, and here’s what you can expect…

Gay anthems galore

This year, the line-up for Pride in the Park includes:

  • Mariah Carey (didn’t know she came out in summer)
  • Confidence Man
  • Sugababes
  • Fatboy Slim
  • Natalie Imbruglia
  • Beth Ditto
  • A load of other artists like Will Young and Loreen

A real spectacle

As well as the main stage, there’ll be a tonne of other stages and things to watch. That includes:

  • The Cocoa Butter Club
  • The Pleasuredome (oo-er)
  • Queertown
  • Legends Cabaret Stage

The parade, duh!

What should you know?

  • The theme this year is Ravishing Rage
  • It kicks off at Hove Lawns on Saturday morning

Partayyyyy!

This year, the Pride Street Party has moved to the Marina Parade. Expect:

  • More performances
  • More cabaret
  • More music
  • More drinks (and maybe some cheeky poppers…)
