Check out this Lady Gaga-owned recording studio in LA

Situated in the original residence of rock legend Frank Zappa, The Utility Muffin Research Kitchen is Hollywood's coolest recording space.

Ever wanted to see where Frank Zappa recorded You Are What You Is, or the birthplace of Lady Gaga’s Chromatica? Well, you’re in luck, because the studio is now available for hire. Built in 1979 — in Zappa’s original residence — The Utility Muffin Research Kitchen is about as quirky and charming as the name would suggest.

Design-wise, it features parquet wooden floors, vintage artwork and Persian rugs. With preserved heritage and attention-to-detail, it makes for a glamorous but cosy space perfect for brainstorming your next big hit.

The studio is steeped in lore and Zappa’s whimsy, with the concept of a ‘Utility Muffin Research Kitchen’ having appeared in the artist’s extended rock-opera — Joe’s Garage — the protagonist of whom spends his life decorating muffins for a living.

The studio’s legacy doesn’t make it outdated, however. Having been purchased by Lady Gaga in 2016, it’s been kept up-to-date with the latest and greatest recording technology, because Gaga would accept nothing but the best for her Little Monsters.
