Having been raised by animal rights activist Linda McCartney as a lifelong vegetarian, Stella McCartney has remained committed to her moral principles by never having used leather, feathers, fur or animal skins in any of her designs. The designer’s passion for animal welfare — and for fashion, of course — is best seen in the Falabella bag, which originally launched in 2009. With a new campaign in 2026, the Falabella is being brought back into the zeitgeist.

The Falabella claims to be the OG luxury vegan handbag, having been released before being plant-based and cruelty-free was trendy. A true trailblazer in the luxury space, Stella McCartney’s first publicly available bag made headlines for being as durable and sleek as animal leather, but without the ethical cost that comes with it. The relaunch of the Farabella bag is an unexpected double-edged sword, with the name being derived from the farabella horse, McCartney’s favourite breed. Not only is vegan leather certifiably a thing in 2026, but so are equine-related collections with us having just entered the Year of the Fire Horse. The bag itself is not part of a Lunar New Year collection, but in fashion there are no coincidences, right? Regardless, the timing is bound to ramp up the bag’s success.

The campaign imagery is equally as appropriate for 2026 Farabella consumers. Featuring Renée Rapp (part-time pop singer, part-time Regina George, full time queer icon) on blurry film like it was taken on a Nokia, it perfectly captures the spirit of Renée’s Gen Z audience — placing a 2026 it-girl in an early 2000s nostalgia dreamscape. Lush.

As for the bag itself, the Farabella is a super flexible and minimalist bag that comes in a range of sizes from large fold-over totes to miniature wallets. In the campaign’s hero colours of black and grey, the recycled brass and aluminium chain adds a touch of understated edge that contrasts with the softness of the material. Understated and luxurious, it’s timeless for a reason. Check out the collection for yourself here.
