Timothée Chalamet just gave us a glimpse of this year’s hottest streetwear collab
Go with Willy Wonka and you’ll end up in a world of pure imagination. But go with Timothée Chalamet and you’ll end up in word of pure… hypebeast-ery. The Dune actor is no stranger to streetwear. Though he’s stripped it back in recent years, Chalamet used to pop out in pieces by cult brands like Golf le Fleur and Off-White. If his name’s on the guest list for a major award’s ceremony, you can expect him to turn up in something that goes against the curve of red carpet dressing: he attended the 2020 Oscars in a utilitarian Prada suit and wore an embellished Louis Vuitton harness to the 2019 Golden Globes. You could even argue that all his getups in Dune feel characteristically steezy. And though his unique style hasn’t always gone down well – his daring halter-neck for a Bones and All premiere certainly turned heads – he just confirmed his status as most stylish thespian by taking a stroll in a hoody from the Stüssy x Junya Watanabe collab.
The hoody is classic Stüssy’s style with the Watanabe touch of some oversized grommeted hardware. Paired with leather pants and black boots by Chalamet and his stylist Ryan Hastings, the actor’s stroll featuring the grailed piece marked the first time it’s seen the light of day since last year. It was then – during Watanabe’s Spring/Summer 2024 menswear show – that the designer debuted the eighteen different collabs he had in the works. Other names on the roster were C.P Company, Alpha Industries, Patta, Palace and Carhartt WIP, amongst many others. Up to this point, none of them have made their way off the runway.
While we’re not sure whether there’s other pieces aside from the hoody in Watanabe’s collab with the streetwear label, we’d say there’s a pretty good chance that the Call Me by Your Name actor will debut a few more pieces from the Japanese designer’s 2024 collection in the near future. It could be said that Chalamet is a kind of muse for Watanabe, wearing a full fit by the designer for a GQ shoot last year, and it seems that the Wonka actor is down for anything. Barbie fans look away, but we’d even go as far as saying that Chalamet’s dystopian, Matrix-esque outfit for the Tokyo leg of the Wonka promo blew Margot Robbie’s efforts out of the water. How does a black latex trench coat relate to the story of a singing-dancing chocolatier, you ask? We have absolutely no idea, but we admire his balls-to-the-wall approach.
