Welcome to Muskville: Elon Musk reportedly wants to build his own utopian town

The Twitter CEO is looking to build the town just outside of Austin, Texas

Tesla, Twitter, SpaceX, and Boring Company CEO Elon Musk is adding one more title to his resume: town owner. The multi-billionaire is reportedly working on building his own utopia in Texas and plans to name it Snailbrook.

The Wall Street Journal reports that Musk plans to build the town outside of Austin near his Boring and SpaceX facilities which are currently under construction, according to the outlet. Facebook photos revealed the area already has a collection of modular homes, a pool, an outdoor sports area, and a gym, and already has signs posted that read: “Welcome, snailbrook, tx, est. 2021.”

According to the newspaper, employees would be charged roughly $800 (£669) a month for one or two-bedroom homes and would have 30 days to leave the premises if they are sacked or resign. Which, given Musk’s trigger finger, could be happening quite frequently.

At least 3,500 acres of land has been purchased with a view to building the town on the Colorado River, says WSJ, citing county deeds, land records, and emails with local officials. That’s the same river that The Boring Company wants permission to dump tens of thousands of wastewater into each day, of course.

Thousands of people were laid off in the immediate aftermath of his Twitter takeover last October, and more quit after he demanded they sign up to a “hardcore” work culture. It later emerged that bedrooms had been set up at the social media company’s San Francisco office. At least now they’ll have somewhere a little more homely.
