Prada set to shake up the beauty industry with a new make-up line

The brand is slowly launching Prada Beauty via cryptic Instagram posts.

Prada has had a complete in-house makeover in recent years, with both Raf Simons and Miuccia Prada to thank for that. The Italian fashion house is now introducing a new department to add to its already thriving perfume line – Prada Beauty.

Speaking to WWD, Prada Group chief executive officer Andrea Guerra introduced “another milestone” in conjunction with the L’Oreal license deal. The fashion label and go-to beauty brand have signed a long-term license agreement for the creation, development, and distribution of luxury beauty products for the Prada brand. The agreement allows the companies to combine their expertise. The statement said at a conference is suggesting that both a make-up and skincare line will be imminent. The idea for the label to expand into these sectors was first announced in 2000 but later dropped.

The unisex collection has seen the Prada Beauty Instagram page introduce their products with one mysterious clue at a time. “Is Brown The New Red?” they tease, alluding to the inspiration behind a colour palette for lipsticks, followed by “What If Pigments Turn Into Pixels?” hinting at perhaps a blush or shadow. Each caption starts with a “Rethink”, followed by “dimensions”, “perceptions”, “innovation”, “expression”, and “archetypes”. A complete industry shake-up it would seem. The simple text-type graphics are leading us to think the Prada minimalistic vibe will follow into their beauty line. They first announced the Instagram via a post in 2022, that said “Enter the #PradaBeauty universe.” It was then announced that their new fragrance Paradoxe would be fronted by Emma Watson – presumably a soft launch into the industry.
