Louis Vuitton’s new drop is the most luxurious lunch bag on the market… sort of

Ever looked at your plain old freezer bags and thought they’re a bit bland? Well, Louis Vuitton have now given the humble item a luxurious makeover – but the “plastic” bag is not what it may seem.
Louis Vuitton’s appropriately named Freezer Handle Soft Trunk and Freezer Sac Plat is made of leather, not plastic, but the trompe l’oeil effect could have fooled us. Coated in silver, one of the bags features a hyper-realistic print of Louis Vuitton’s monogram Handle Soft Trunk bag, which appears next to an apple. Another shows the Sac Plat with a crumbly croissant set casually atop what is surely very expensive leather. The optical illusions bring to mind a Russian nesting doll. Or a very light lunch.

Perhaps Louis Vuitton is simply trying to catch the wave of the bag-on-bag trend (who could forget Maison Margiela’s attempt). Or maybe the brand wanted to contribute its own creation to expensive designer accessories that mimic a cheap way to store groceries, like the brown paper bag from Bottega Veneta that isn’t actually made of paper, or Balenciaga’s Ikea bag dupe.
What’s even wilder is that these bizarre bags actually cost as much or more than the Louis Vuitton bags that they mimic.
The Freezer Soft Trunk retails for $3,700 on Louis Vuitton’s website, the same price as an ordinary Handle Soft Trunk. The Freezer Sac Plat, meanwhile, is priced at $3,950, over $1,300 more than the Sac Plat PM bag.
