Five years on from the first film’s release, Call Me By Your Name director Luca Guadagnino has revealed he’d still like to make a sequel to the film focused on Timothée Chalamet’s Elio.
During an interview at the Telluride Film Festival, the filmmaker said: “A sequel is an American concept. It’s more like the chronicles of Elio, the chronicles of this young boy becoming a man. It is something I want to do.”
It seems as though Guadagnino has had a slight change of heart from comments he made in 2021, where the director admitted that other projects were taking priority over a sequel, although his “heart is still” in it.
Guadagnino and Chalamet recently linked up again for Guadagnino’s Bones and All, a coming-of-age story based on two cannibal lovers Maren (Taylor Russell) and Lee (Chalamet). Guadagnino has already denied the parallels between the plot and Chalomet’s Call Me Be Your Name co-star Armie Hammer, who was accused of cannibalism and sexual assault.
Guadagnino also had high praise for Chalamet and claimed there is a “beautiful bond” between them. While discussing the actor’s rise to fame, Guadagnino said: “To see the humbleness and rigour with which he made his first steps toward stardom – this bright, feverish young man became this planetary star – made me so proud.”
