I spy a celeb: The Wimbledon men’s final was more star-studded than ever before

Sunday’s Wimbledon final saw Carlos Alcaraz, who went into Wimbledon as number one seed, saw off seven-time Wimbledon champion Djokovic in an emotional five-set battle, thus denying the latter’s attempt at matching the current record of 24 Grand Slams, as well as ending a run of four successive Wimbledon titles. But, what we really want to talk about is the celebrities in the crowd, because Sunday’s final was even more star-studded than usual.

Let’s start with Ariana Grande, who kept things relatively low-key in some green sunglasses and a baseball cap. The chart-topping singer has actually been in London for some time as she’s filming the new movie version of Wicked, but with production currently on pause due to the Hollywood actors’ strike, she found time to fit in a bit of tennis. 

She was joined by Wicked co-star Jonathan Bailey, as well as fellow actor Andrew Garfield. To Bailey’s right was model Poppy Delevingne, while actors Tom Hiddleston and Zawe Ashton were seated in the row in front.

Brad Pitt, wearing a signature unbuttoned polo and aviators, watched on alongside Snatch director Guy Ritchie.

Idris Elba, with his wife Sabrina Dhowre Elba, gained quite the coverage in a very on-brand green and white open-collared Nigeria shirt designed by the Art of Football

Meanwhile, Daniel Craig and Rachel Weisz bagged themselves a spot in the royal box alongside Prince William and Princess Kate (plus the Spanish royal family), while the likes of Stormzy, Tom Hiddleston, and Hugh Jackman had to make do watching on from a dedicated VIP area.

Also spotted were two former Wimbledon champions, two-time singles champ Andy Murray and two-time mixed doubles champion Neal Skupski.

Thankfully, those who attended the final would leave more than impressed with the level of talent on display on the court. Alcaraz, who also reigned victorious at last year’s US Open, looks to have broken the stranglehold the likes of Djokovic, Roger Federer, and Rafael Nadal have had on the sport of tennis for the last two decades, and as such is pioneering a so-called new era of tennis. Still, new era or not, the 15,000 packed inside centre court (of which was seemingly all celebs) were given a true tennis spectacle.
