HUNGER’s MVP of the week

Welcome to HUNGER’s Most Valuable Player, the place to find the best things to buy, watch, do, or listen to each week. Forget about the hype, we want to separate what’s hot, what’s not, and what needs to be on your radar…

Kicking off this week is acclaimed Nigerian artist Olaolu Slawn, who has partnered up with eBay to auction off a selection of sneaker-inspired artwork. Birthed from his own passion for sneakers, Slawn has produced two works inspired by two of his most beloved pairs: the Corteiz x Nike Air Max 95 ‘Gutta Green’ and Nike Air Jordan 4 ‘Black Cat’. Designed in his signature cartoonish style, the two paintings are now available for auction on eBay, with all funds raised going to Path to Possibilities – a charity that shares teaching skills, art materials and best practices with primary schools in Nigeria supporting disadvantaged children. Meanwhile, Slawn, together with eBay, has also curated an on-site selection featuring the artist’s favourite footwear, including Nike Air Max 95, Nike X Nocta Glides and Asics Gel 1130. So, if you’re a sneakerhead looking for something to add to your decor, start bidding here.

Next up, if you’re in need of a playlist refresher, rising UK rapper Nemzzz has just released his latest offering ‘8AM IN MANNY’. With his trademark laid-back flow rolling over a beat sampling Drake’s ‘8am in Charlotte’, the Manchester native departs from his usual drill-infused production for something with a more vintage feel. Landing last night but with co-signs already from none other than Drake himself alongside a who’s who of UK talent, including Headie One, Russ Millions, Aitch, Sainte, Antslive, and more. And after releasing his debut EP earlier this year, Nemzzz Type Beat, embarking on a sold-out headline UK and European tour, ‘8AM IN MANNY’ acts as the perfect crowning to a landmark 2023 for the artist.

Sadly, we’re edging closer and closer to the winter months, and while it may seem all doom and gloom, there’s at least one positive to take: Stüssy’s Holiday collection. The winter-ready collection sees the introduction of cold weather essentials in the label’s staple patterns and recognizable iconography on wrinkle nylon puffer jackets, knitwear and oversized trousers, with jackets and trousers taking on the “real trees” camo look. Other standouts include corduroy blazers and shearling bombers, all layered with Stüssy’s classic laidback silhouettes. Check out the entire collection – which is available to shop here – below.

Last but certainly not least, East London-based musician and fashion mogul KwolleM has just dropped his latest music project, delivering a polished and clean-cut collection of “mellow grime” records. After a three-year hiatus, KwolleM’s latest record is named after his recently-born daughter, and the record dips in and out of the process of becoming a dad while also sketching out a future where KwolleM intends to provide everything he needs for his child. Dipping into a slew of musical influences – such as grime, drill, R&B, drum and bass, and garage – the project also enlists a solid list of collaborators, including AJ Tracey, SL, Ashbeck, Novelist, Bawo, Unknown T, and more.
