HUNGER’s MVP of the week

Welcome to HUNGER’s Most Valuable Player, the place to find the best things to buy, watch, do, or listen to each week. Forget about the hype, we want to separate what’s hot, what’s not, and what needs to be on your radar…

North West London artist Summer Alone returns with his latest album, B4 Boy, Interrupted, a fine display of the talent’s unmatched knack for versatility. Refining his sound, Summer produces a record fit for all moods. Whether it’s album opener ‘Hurt Boy’ – a nocturnal, ethereal track perfect for those late-night drives filled with reminiscing – or off-the-wall bangers like ‘Chat Sh!t Get Bun’, Summer proves once again with ease why he’s one of the most multi-skilled artists rising from London’s depths. Despite making for one of his more upbeat releases, the musician doesn’t shy away from topics including substance abuse and mental health issues, particularly on standout ‘MANIC PIXIE DREAM BOY’, where Summer raps, “Too many voices talkin’ in my head, stay in my room, I just stay in my bed.” If you’re on the hunt for something equally as introspective as high-octane, then be sure to lock into B4 Boy, Interrupted.

Next up on MVP, lifestyle label HUMAN MADE has revealed its Season 25 collection with some of the slickest graphic prints on the block. The capsule draws inspiration from traditional Japanese culture with its imagery, embracing the humble park-pond duck and spotlighting the bird across all its garments. Aloha shirts and matching shorts display gradient aqua hues, whilst plant-dyed heart-logo tees sit alongside repeated-print duck shirts. And the collection isn’t short on accessories either, offering hats, square-toe flip-flops, wind chimes, rice bowls, teacups, and chopsticks. Summer is all covered, from your wardrobe to your kitchen to pimping your bookshelves, and you can shop the pieces here now.

If you’re a fan of Maya Jama, and partial to a good gin (aren’t we all), then this is the collab for you. Go-to gin makers Gordon’s Premium Pink and Jama have paired up for two new limited edition bottles with her signature phrases “You’re a Limited Edition, My Love” and “Cling Cling, My Honeys”. Two of the UK’s faves are championing being unapologetically yourself and having the best time this summer whatever you’re doing. Emblazoned in an apt hot pink, the bottles offer both the Pink Distilled Gin and the Premium Pink Alcohol-Free, meaning everyone can get a taste of this summer’s hottest drink. Jama also offers her fave cocktail of Gordon’s Pink Paloma – with a step-by-step on how you can unwind like the broadcasting royalty herself. Take a look at Jama’s go-to recipe here, and pick up a bottle or two at Amazon now. All that’s left to say is: “Cling Cling!”

Last but by certainly no means least on this week’s MVP, London rapper, and singer J Hus is back after three years since his last album. The brand-new LP, Beautiful and Brutal Yard, consists of 19 tracks tracing the life of a Londoner, not shying away from the bleak but marrying the notations of life’s hardships with its silver linings. We see J Hus delve into themes of love, religion, and the Black British experience, with tunes like ‘Massacre’ drawing from afrobeats, and ‘Come Gully Bun’ detailing his storytelling talents. The album features some of the industry’s top names, including Jorja Smith, Drake, Naira Marley, Burna Boy, Villz, and Popcaan, and is already being dubbed by fans as the perfect summer album.
