HUNGER’s MVP of the week

By now, you’ve probably heard about the Swatch x Omega collaboration; 11 different watches, all inspired by different planets in our solar system (the deep grey Mission to Mercury is our particular love affair). But you also probably heard about the collection far, far too late. Or maybe you had your eyes on the Telfar x Eastpak collection, which too was never going to stick around long enough for you to actually buy it. These were the stratospheric drops of the week, but that’s not to say it was the only place to get some limited edition goods.
This week’s MVP is less about intergalactic watches and un-coppable luggage, and all about nostalgia. It’s a trip into a velour filled memory, bejewelled with adorable kitschiness and reminders of questionable outfit decisions. After a weekend of hype activations and DJ events across different stores around the world, the Ganni x Juicy Couture collaboration is bringing those core memories back to life.
The Copenhagen-based brand’s new collection with leisure-wear figurehead Juicy Couture is the cherry on the Y2K revival cake. Think classic glistening tracksuits in black, blue and tan, and slightly disorientating patterns with the Ganni Girl touch. It’s tongue-in-cheek but that’s not to say that the collection doesn’t deserve your full attention. And the best part? Most sizes are still in stock.
Ganni is all about making women feel more confident, and to be a “Ganni Girl” is a state of mind. The brand is best known for its playful, bold colours, summer-y silhouettes, billowy dresses and kitschy graphic tees… A far throw from cinched tracksuits that can leave you looking either like an iconic heiress, or a Real Housewife. They’re two worlds that feel far removed, but that’s not to say joining forces would ever be a mistake.
And it seems most people think that the collaboration was a good idea – the 122% increase in people looking for ‘low rise Juicy’ items on Depop following the collection drop proves it. What do you expect? We’re truly re-living Y2K.
If it’s good enough for Paris Hilton, it’s definitely worth stepping up your relaxed-pant game.
