Grab your toolbox – DIY Dad-core just got a sexy update from Fendi SS24

It’s time to get out your hammers and strap on some gaffer tape because this summer season just got the Silvia Venturini Fendi treatment.

On Thursday the 15th of June in the heart of Florence, Fendi introduced its SS24 collection in a brand-new factory – inviting guests to get an exclusive glimpse into the nuts and bolts of the fashion house. This included seeing the ideas of designer Silvia Venturini Fendi and artistic director Kim Jones come to life, with the whole process on display.

But there was no screw loose with this full-fledged fashion affair, and the pattern cutters, patches of leather, sewing machines, and rivets laying around actually tied the whole thing together. It was unified to a T, including that of a worker’s style uniform. Venturini Fendi looked to the inspiration of the workers behind the scenes this SS24 and shone a light on the dedicated process and style that comes with the busy job.

The looks celebrated aprons with a leather twist, utility belts true to the Fendi camel-coloured DNA, and oversized painter shirts layered over trousers. Measuring tapes were draped around the neck like skinny scarves, and most notably, the tool belt sat on the waist like a mini skirt adaptation. Each clever little piece was transformed into a sexy slew of looks and had us hot under the collar without even doing a second of the hard work.

The craftsmanship-inspired collection saw models sauntering the runway with coffee cups in their hands as though rushing on their commute to work, and the detail on the tools themselves (including screwdrivers, hammers, and scissors) held Fendi in each stitch with the repeated graphic logo throughout. The monogrammed briefcases and cup holders were a practical addition, and have us thinking how stylish a Fendi tube journey would look with this new range of accessories.

Even the comfy shoe of the century – the Croc – was a part of the show, with the much-loved ‘ugly’ footwear debuting a new green and tan shade. The whole collection was a hat’s off to the new direction Fendi is taking, and it’s safe to say that DIY Dad-core has absolutely nailed it for this summer’s hottest new look.
