Get the Sam Smith latex look with HARRI’s SS23 shop

It’s going to be a latex summer, and promising young designer HARRI has you covered.

Remember when Sam Smith hit headlines with the kinky Michelin man ‘fit at the BRIT Awards? Well, as of this summer, you can get your hands on the latex-laden looks by London fashion designer HARRI. It’s time to bounce around this summer with the hottest (literally) garments in the industry.

Dividing opinions, Smith’s outfit, ballooning at the legs and bouncing down the red carpet, saw half the public ridiculing the singer for their eccentricity and the other half, the ones in the know, fawning over who designed the bulbous suit. The exaggerated shoulders and silhouette in a shiny black colour took the material to new heights. It was like a blow-up doll gone wrong – in the best way possible.

Reaching viral status with the signature latex garments, fans have been impressed with a roster of collections that aim to deconstruct gender roles by HARRI. In 2020, the designer graduated from London College of Fashion, debuting a graduate collection with APOC Store. Then came London Fashion Week SS23, when the sculptural element of HARRI’s latex looks took to the runway, and Sam Smith subsequently hit the BRIT donning one of HARRI’s creations.

The designer’s SS23 collection includes two tank tops and two pairs of trousers – a small start no doubt aimed to ease us into our rubbery future. The art pieces are made entirely from the material and will see consumers sucking it all in to squeeze into the pieces like Ross from Friends and his paste pants. Maybe invest in some high-quality baby powder or a hefty tub of vaseline to help you out?

The best part is that each look allows the wearer to play with their identity and the size of their chosen pants or top. A standout piece is HARRI’s Draped Latex Trousers in a mustard yellow colour which are perfect for the sunny weather season. With a streetwear injection, the trousers opt for a more relaxed fit with a lower waist, as the runway pieces have been reinterpreted as wardrobe staples. To dabble in the wicked world of latex this summer, HARRI will be selling the pieces on various platforms like H. Lorenzo, just get yours before they undoubtedly sell out.
