Dividing opinions, Smith’s outfit, ballooning at the legs and bouncing down the red carpet, saw half the public ridiculing the singer for their eccentricity and the other half, the ones in the know, fawning over who designed the bulbous suit. Reaching viral status with the signature latex garments, fans have been impressed with a roster of collections that aim to deconstruct gender roles by HARRI. In 2020, the designer graduated from London College of Fashion, debuting a graduate collection with APOC Store. Then came London Fashion Week SS23, when the sculptural element of HARRI’s latex looks took to the runway, and Sam Smith subsequently hit the BRIT donning one of HARRI’s creations.
The designer’s SS23 collection includes two tank tops and two pairs of trousers – a small start no doubt aimed to ease us into our rubbery future. The art pieces are made entirely from the material and will see consumers sucking it all in to squeeze into the pieces like Ross from Friends and his paste pants.
