Drake and The Weeknd continue Grammys boycott

The Canadian artists did not submit any solo music for consideration at next year’s awards.

Drake and The Weeknd have once again turned down the opportunity to put their music forward for Grammy consideration.

Last year, Drake withdrew his music from awards consideration entirely, after receiving nominations for both Certified Lover Boy and ‘Way 2 Sexy’ in two categories. The rapper has had a rocky past with the Recording Academy, dating back to 2017, when he skipped the Grammys ceremony after ‘Hotline Bling’ was nominated in the rap category when he had claimed the track was a pop song.

Meanwhile, The Weeknd expressed his frustrations with the Grammys last year, after his incredibly popular album After Hours and its lead single ‘Blinding Lights’ did not receive a single nomination. In response, he shared a statement with the New York Times that read: “Because of the secret committees, I will no longer allow my label to submit my music to the Grammys.” In a coincidental turn of events, he still took home a Grammy for Best Melodic Rap Performance that year for his contributions to Kanye West’s ‘Hurricane.’

Bruno Mars announced on Thursday that Silk Sonic, the R&B duo comprised of himself and Anderson .Paak, will not submit their album, An Evening With Silk Sonic, for Grammy consideration either.
