Atelier Jolie will be the next resident of the iconic Warhol and Basquiat studio

Angeline Jolie has bought the place on Great Jones Street to start her new fashion venture.

Nearly eight months after the residency of Warhol and Basquiat was put on sale, none other than Angelina Jolie has sealed the deal on the studio for her exciting new project. She recently revealed she would be venturing into the fashion industry with her business which aims to bring tailors and artisans around the world together on a platform called Atelier Jolie

The plan was announced this May, with details including utilising vintage and leftover materials to begin to make fashion a more inclusive space – but not much more was said when it came to actualising the project. Now, the two interesting stories have crossed over, with Jolie choosing the location central to a chunk of artistic history. “A privilege to be in this space. We will do our best to respect and honor its artist legacy with community and creativity,” she said in her Instagram post announcing the news.

The 19th-century studio was once owned by Andy Warhol, and then handed on to Jean-Michel Basquiat. It is situated at 57 Great Jones Street and was said to be on the market for $60,000 a month. Adorned in graffiti paying tribute to the pair of historic figures, many in the art community wanted to preserve its legacy and keep the art on the outside walls – something Jolie is reportedly keen on retaining.

With 6,600 square feet to play with, the future for Atelier Jolie seems evidently bright, and this heartwarming story will undoubtedly procure an increased rate of interest in her project from the public. The exact purchase price is yet to be disclosed but with a minimum of ten years on the lease, this historically significant location will detail a new era for the art and fashion world thanks to Jolie.
