We all know there’s no wardrobe essential quite as versatile as denim. A good pair of jeans, a strong jacket, even an entire Canadian tuxedo if that’s your thing — no wardrobe is complete without a denim base, and Chanel’s latest beauty collection operates on the same philosophy.

Following the creative vision of Valentina Li (a member of the maison’s elusive Comètes Collective), Chanel has unveiled the Denim Makeup Collection. The capsule takes inspiration from traditional denim hues, like light and dark blues and grey-blacks, and lifts them up with powdery pinks and shimmering metallics across everything from eyeshadows to nail polishes.

Like a good pair of jeans, the collection is designed to be the cornerstone of your everyday beauty routine, but ‘staple’ doesn’t have to mean safe. Blue eyeshadow and mascara is definitely having its moment right now, but with this line, Chanel has also introduced a lipstick and blush in the hue, too. The Baby Blue Rouge Coco Flash leaves a subtle blue shimmer across the lips, while the Coco Denim Illuminating Powder catches the glimmer of “a metallic thread woven through your favourite jeans”. Of course, the campaign centres around the use of denim hues, but the collection also includes more neutral shades like caramel beiges and dusty pinks, which embody the versatility of everyday denimwear.

The campaign imagery is headed by none other than It-girl and long-term ambassador for the brand, Lily-Rose Depp. Depp makes the perfect cover girl for the campaign as she exudes the effortless edge envied by every Gen-Z girl from Paris to London, while retaining the air of elegance so central to the Chanel’s ethos. What’s more, each of the items comes dressed in their very own denim pouch — owning the collection is not just the mark of a flawless face, but a fashion fanatic, too. Combining forces with Depp and the denim pouches, it’s perfectly apt that the collection has landed during Fashion Month.
