Who. What. Where? No. 82
First up, it’s over to Guts Gallery, who are showing Lydia Pettit and Olivia Sterling’s joint show “Bitches In Heat” until the 13th of October. “Bitches In Heat” is diverse when it comes to what areas of the female existence it tackles, but it’s unified by just how abrasive the skewering is. The Guts Gallery write-up of the hyped exhibition calls it “untamed exploration of desire on the margins”, and that takes the form of everything from portraits of women complete with talons and frothing mouths to retro renditions of the ladies room at a cocktail bar. Guts Gallery is located on Andre Street in Hackney and you can read more about the exhibition here.
A wee secret one for those of you outside the big smoke, now. Next Friday there’s an NTS party being held at a secret location in Manchester. Set to play are resident DJs of the iconic radio station Flo Dill and Charlie Satsumas. Flo Dill is a maven of new wave and synth pop sounds, heralding the NTS Breakfast Show for over three years. Charlie Satsumas, on the other hand, will be serving up left-field pop tunes, something he’s also become known for thanks to a monthly slot on the station’s morning show. Grab a ticket from Resident Advisor and you’ll receive the address of the party prior to the event.
Next up, we’ve got an event that unites music and art lovers. Taking place at The Factory on Shacklewell Lane, 20 Years of the Shacklewell Arms is an exhibition that celebrates some of the best designers and photographers that have set foot in the iconic East London venue. Featuring work by names like Beth Knight, Kyleen Hengelhaupt, Nina Rädel and Personality Crisis – names that will be familiar to all your music geeks out there – the exhibition is a nice little celebration of all the unforgettable moments that have taken place in this unassuming pub back room. Tickets are free, but you still need to grab one here.
With Jamie XX about to grace the stage of Alexandra Palace, it’s only fair that The xx’s other talent, none other than Romy Madley Croft, gets a little shoutout in this week’s WWW. This Saturday Mighty Hoopla presents an offshoot of their festival named The Bump, which will see DJ sets from KDA, Absolute, Jaguar, Luke Howard and, of course, Romy. Buy yourself a ticket here — all profits will be donated to Pink Noise, a new foundation created by Mighty Hoopla to support the most vulnerable members of the LGBTQ+ community.
Last but not least, here’s one for you film bros (and film gals). This Friday, the collective Girls in Film are hosting an exclusive preview screening of the upcoming film The Outrun, which stars Saoirse Ronan and is already getting buzz on the festival circuit. Based on a best-selling memoir by Amy Liptrot, The Outrun is an Orkney islands-set drama that tackles addiction and recovery. What makes this screening extra special is it will be accompanied by a Q&A with BAFTA nominated producer, Sarah Brocklehurst, and BIFA winning costume designer, Grace Snell. Secure yourself a ticket here — nerds, fill your boots.
