Sorry Rihanna fans, you’ll have to wait even longer for a new album
Rihanna has updated fans on her return to music, confirming that a new album from her will not arrive anytime soon despite her upcoming Super Bowl Halftime Show.
In a new interview with the Associated Press, the artist revealed that new music and her Super Bowl show are two separate entities. “That’s not true,” Rihanna said of the rumours that a new album will drop after her Halftime Show, adding, “Super Bowl is one thing. New music is another thing. Do you hear that, fans?” She continued, “The second that I announced this, I said, ‘Oh, my God, they’re going to think my album is coming. I need to get to work.’”
But don’t worry, the star did confirm that new music and a “special project” are on the way. “We’ll see, we’ll see. Unrelated, unrelated,” she said, “but a special project.”
The musician also briefly opened up about her decision to perform at the Super Bowl now that she’s a mother. “If I’m going to leave my baby, I’m going to leave my baby for something special,” she explained. “It was now or never for me.”
Rihanna recently released her first solo single in over six years, ‘Lift Me Up,’ for Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. There’s no word on whether that song will make the Super Bowl setlist, but the star did tell Entertainment Tonight the performance will “celebrate the music that I’ve made.”
