JW Anderson adds another animal to the clutch collection
JW Anderson is on top form following the hype that came with his infamous Pigeon Clutch, with both the designer’s work at LOEWE and his own eponymous house challenging stereotypically tasteful boundaries with each collection. His divisive Pigeon Clutch went viral on TikTok, reaching icon status when Carrie Bradshaw was spotted holding the bird on the set of And Just Like That, later pulling out a stick of gum from the winged pocket in one of the episodes.
Building on from his Wellipets frog clog collab, the new playful piece also follows in the pigeon’s footsteps, which emulates the kind of throw-away and unexplainable items you’d find on the dusty top shelf at a garden centre. The designer explores 3D printing technology to achieve a hyper-realistic look, advancing to become more lifelike than its predecessors from previous collections. To get into the Frog Clutch, the mouth opens to reveal a red-painted inside, closing again with a magnet that sits on the tip of the tongue.
The new novelty frog pal is by no means garden centre prices, with the frog accessory retailing at £750. Perhaps Bradshaw will debut hers on the new season of And Just Like That, or even better another Samantha cameo could challenge the divisive Pigeon Clutch in some secret fashion rivalry.
But JW Anderson’s outlandish creations aren’t just capped at his animal iterations, with a new abstract-style pillowcase bag also going on the site at the same time. The Cushion Clutch Bag first debuted on the same runway as the amphibian, with models holding the plastic-framed number as though they were getting ready for a fashion sleepover. The feathery polyester inside stays true to the pillow concept, with branded casing reading ‘KEEP AWAY FROM FIRE’.
