MVP of the week — Featuring Burberry and Armand Basi

Welcome to HUNGER’s Most Valuable Player, the place to find the best things to buy, watch, do, or listen to each week. Forget about the hype, we want to separate what’s hot, what’s not, and what needs to be on your radar…

First up is beauty, where it’s all about the patron saints of British fashion: Burberry. From December 4th, Selfridges will be home to a Burberry Beauty boutique, which will feature not only the entire beauty range to shop in-person, but the heritage brand’s iconic fragrance line too. Whether you’re more about creating a glowy, natural look that pays homage to Burberry’s roots, or wanting to do something a little bolder in an ode to Daniel Lee’s modern reworking of the quintessentially British brand, it’s basically the answer to all your Christmas present worries. The pop-up will also exclusively carry three Kisses Matte Lip colours in limited-edition festive packaging.

With the weekend just around the corner, it’s time to start thinking about where you’re going to get wined and wined. Look no further than Solis, the latest project from the duo behind TĀ TĀ Eatery that’s just opened in Arcade Battersea. Taking its name from Juan Díaz de Solis, a 16th-century explorer that was said to be the first European to set food on what is now Uruguay, Solis pays homage to the flavours of Spain, Portugal, Uruguay and Argentina. You can expect classic dishes with a little South American flair – think devilled eggs with a spicy tuna filling and chicken served with Aji-Aji sauce – all served up with sangria and amidst interiors that transport guests to the old town of Uruguay. Tantalised? Try it out for yourself by booking here.

Next up, is Spanish brand Armand Basi‘s newest collab with designer Per Götesson. As all our fashion favourites are at the moment, Götesson’s collection harks back to the 90s. The Swedish-born, London-based designer pulled from Armand Basi’s extensive archive to create a unisex capsule collection that incorporates both the slick stylings of Barcelona city as well as the more relaxed silhouettes of the Catalan people. The collab both pays homage to Armand Basi’s roots while looking forward, with Götesson, who’s made fans out of streetwear mavens like Travis Scott and Yung Lean, giving classic tailoring a suitably 2023 touch: he subverts conventional masculinity, re-works the stark lines we sometimes see in suits, and puts sustainability at the forefront, swapping out the leatherwork of Armand Basi’s past for recycled materials.

And your tipple of choice this weekend? Belvedere 10. Belvedere is a household name when it comes to vodka, but its newest iteration establishes its stake in the world of luxury booze. Taking its name from (amongst a lot of things) the year Belvedere was founded, this particular release from the iconic vodka brand is made from organic Dankowskie Diamond Rye grown on the Bartężek estate in Poland. A year after it’s planted, it’s harvested before resting for ten months in steel vats (another thing that sets it apart from regular vodka, which rests in casks). The result is a velvety smooth mouthfeel and notes of coconut, vanilla and rich, dark cacao. There’s also that hard to miss bottle design. Looking like whatever the halfway point is between a sparkling, chiselled diamond and a kind of futuristic monolith, it’s ten levels pay homage to the vodka’s meticulous ten-step creation process. It’s one for the bar stand, for sure.
