Come backstage at New York Fashion Week
So, New York Fashion Week is back.
At the top spot of everyone’s schedule was Peter Do’s first show at the helm of Helmut Lang. The Vietnamese-American designer was faced with the hefty task of bringing the New York-based brand back to relevance and the runway, and breathe some new life into the minimalist, monochromatic designs that the brand has become synonymous with – almost 18 years after designer/founder Helmut Lang left the label.
There were the Do staples of deconstruction and pieces that barely flirt with the idea of being conventionally clothed; detached sleeves that frame the chest, back-to-front shirts and sleeveless suits. Was it nice to look at? Sure. Was it enough to give Helmut Lang that vigour to bring it up to speed with the global market? Only time will tell.
Some slack will be cut, however, as on top of delivering a brand overhaul, Do’s also been working on his upcoming show at Paris Fashion Week for the designer’s own eponymous brand. And it’ll be how Do draws a clear line in the fashion calendar sand between Peter Do and Peter Do at Helmut Lang that might possibly generate the most excitement in the fashion month calendar this season.
Then there was Mila Sullivan’s lace, pearl, and frill dollhouse fantasy, Bevza’s Newsboy cap revival, and Priscavera’s glitter-laden sheer display. See everything that went down backstage at NYFW by photographer Jack Buster below…
