Who is the king of blokecore – Man United, Real Madrid or Barcelona?

If there’s one thing we’ve seen more than baggy jorts this summer, it’s football jerseys. Take a stroll through Soho, and you’ll be greeted by an army of fashionistas rocking a combination of the two – usually clutching onto an overpriced iced coffee from Aimé Leon Dore. But despite their overwhelming popularity, we still can’t get enough of the humble footy shirt. And after seeing a sea of Man Utd, Barcelona and A.C. Milan kits over the last few months, we’ve been wondering what team is taking away the trophy for the most popular jersey. Well, now we finally know.
In research collated by boohooMAN, it’s revealed that the 10th most popular kits on the market come from Italian side Juventus (you know, the team who produced the pink kit from that hilariously iconic Drake post). Known as ‘The Old Lady’, Juventus kits are searched for around 90,000 times on average per month on Google and are the only Italian team to feature in the top 10. If you’re looking for something sleek and classy, you can never go wrong with their classic black and white striped jerseys.
At 9th and 8th are Ajax (117,000 searches) of the Netherlands, and English giants Chelsea (193,000 searches), respectively. Both sides are known for their classic kits more so than their modern iteration, with Ajax’s red and white and Chelsea’s various polished away shirts acting as fan favourites.
Another notable inclusion comes from Barcelona, in 6th place with 290,000 searches. The team’s blue and red striped kits transcend the sport, and with iconic names like Ronaldinho, Lionel Messi, and Thierry Henry all hitting the field for the side over the years, there’s no surprise that Bracelona’s kits are so popular.
In 3rd place is another English club, Liverpool, whose kits are searched for 365,000 times per month on average. The Scouse side is another team with rich history, holding the record for most Champions League – Europe’s premier club competition – wins by an English side with no less than six triumphs overall.
Coming in at runner-up with 390,000 searches is Liverpool’s arch-rivals, Manchester United. The Red Devils are one of the only teams whose modern kits are as popular as their classics, with their fiery red hue becoming a pop culture staple. Over the years, we’ve seen the likes of Drake (who loves a footy kit, apparently), Miley Cyrus, Kanye West, Dave and countless others throw on the legendary strip.
There can only be one winner, though, and one team blows the competition out of the water – both on the field and in fit pics (we’ll let you decide which is more important). We’re talking about Real Madrid, of course, whose legendary ice-white jerseys are searched for over 416,000 times monthly. As the most successful club in European history, the Spanish side’s shirts are a perfect addition to your summer wardrobe. Despite leaving the club in 2018, browsers are still searching for “Real Madrid Ronaldo” shirts more than any other player; not only is he one of the greatest footballers of all time, but he is also a fashion icon and no doubt his 10-year stint at Real Madrid has contributed to the popularity of the famous shirt. Our favourite pick from their catalogue comes in the form of their 14/15 away jersey designed by Yohji Yamamoto.
