‘The Iron Claw’: Everything we know about the beefy sports drama, starring Zac Efron and Jeremy Allen-White

A24 has been busy cooking up some more of their weird and wonderful films. Pete Davidson features in their new stoner comedy, Travis Scott is producing a secret film, and the highly-anticipated ‘Mother Mary’ starring Anne Hathaway is en route. Now, we have been treated to a beefy wrestler sports drama with none other than Zac Efron and The Bear’s Jeremy Allen White.
Expected to be in theatres around Christmas time with a debut on the 22nd of December, The Iron Claw will follow the tragic lives of the Von Erich family who were all wrestlers that made history in the sport in the early 80s. The brothers were known for the ‘Von Erich curse’ that plagued their personal lives, with each of them dying one by one in the prime of their careers.
Efron will play Kevin Von Erich, whilst White portrays Kerry Von Erich. The two Hollywood stars are joined by Harris Dickinson known for Triangle of Sadness as David Von Erich, as well as Mindhunter’s Holt McCallany as patriarch Fritz Von Erich. The men of the family will be joined by Maura Tierney as the boy’s mother Doris, as well as Lily James who will play Efron’s wife Pam.
The muscular looks of some of the new film’s stars have been of interest to many on the internet. Now with the first still released by the production company showing the brothers sitting on a fence, we can see why the uber-burly bods were a necessity. A picture of Efron in the ring kicking a component was released earlier this year, and White told GQ that he gained forty pounds of muscle just for the role. Undoubtedly, we will see a lot of stunts and action from the boys in the film, if the training is anything to go by.
The Iron Claw is currently in post-production and will coincide with the releases of the musical adaptation of The Color Purple as well as the superhero sequel Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom.
