Taken into custard-y: Woman attempted to murder her lookalike with poisoned cheesecake

She had laced the cheesecake with a deadly sedative in a bid to steal her supposed doppelganger’s identity.

A New York City woman, by the name of Viktoria Nasyrova, was found guilty by a jury on Wednesday of trying to kill her lookalike with a cheesecake. Nasyrova, 47, laced a cheesecake with a powerful sedative and served it to her 35-year-old lookalike, Olga Tsvyk. Nasyrova went on to steal her passport and other valuables in the August of 2016, according to Queens district attorney Melinda Katz.

The premise of her attempted murder lay in the hope to steal the victim’s identity, as the women shared dark hair and similar skin tones. Nasyvora had brought the cheesecake to Tsyvk’s house in the Forest Hill neighborhood of Queens. “The jury saw through the deception and schemes of the defendant,” said Katz.

“She laced a slice of cheesecake with a deadly drug so she could steal her unsuspecting victim’s most valuable possession, her identity. Fortunately, her victim survived and the poison led right back to the culprit.”

Prosecutors stated that despite her survival, the victim had been put into an almost comatose state when she was taken to the hospital after she had lost consciousness upon consuming the cheesecake.

When Tsvyk returned home, her passport, work authorisation cards, a gold ring, and other valuables had gone missing. Nasyvora’s cheesecake residue was tested and had been found to contain traces of phenazepam – an extremely powerful sedative.

She was subsequently arrested and convicted of charges including attempted murder, unlawful imprisonment, and assault. The results of her cheesecake poisonings? 25 years in prison, which she will face upon her sentencing on the 21st of March.

Nasvyora has also faced accusations of drugging her neighbor, Alla Alekseeno, in Russia in 2012, which proved to be fatal. She denied killing her to CBS in 2017.
