HUNGER PREMIERE: Get to know Muck Spreader, the new kids on the block
Muck Spreader doesn’t actually exist online yet, but once you’ve seen their electric debut single and music video you’ll be impatiently waiting for the elusive band’s next move.
In this full HUNGER exclusive, we’re bringing you a triple whammy, the band share the first listen to their track ‘Having Fun’, alongside the enigmatic visuals directed by Dorothy Allen Pickard AND answer our 10 questions. Wow.
The improvisational 6+ piece band centre around “Worzel and Pepe”, they also throughout their sound hope to channel the community spirit of struggling societies and give a voice to those who can’t speak and be heard for themselves. This is already evident through Pickard’s video, following a group of young contemporary dancers explore the suburbs of New York City in time to Muck Spreader’s hyperactive jazz beats and powerful overlayed spoken and sung lyrics.

Describe your music in 3 words…
Salacious, spontaneous and ribbergish.
Who’s your greatest influence?
As the members of the band often vary from each show and recording, My greatest influence is whoever is in the band alongside me at that given moment, as I couldn’t do it without them.
What does music mean to you?
Music to me knows no boundaries or judgement. A form of meditation, collaboration, a selfless place of expression and a force to unite.
Who’s the last person you called?
Jimmy Skinn the beater of drums.
What did you talk about?
Whirling Dervish our club night and label and to discuss our show at the windmill on Saturday.
One item of clothing you couldn’t live without?
Well, I could definitely live completely in the nude.
One album you couldn’t live without?
Muck Spreader wouldn’t exist the way it does, had I not heard Naked City Live, Vol. 1: The Knitting Factory 1989.
What’s your favourite way to spend £10?
Probably to get the roll of film developed with the artwork for the next single on it, that’s been occupying space on my to-do list for far too long.
How about £100?
Put it back into the cause. Keep this steaming locomotive rolling through.
What’s next for you?
No stopping, gathering speed and momentum to travel at great velocity to the next levels. We’ve just finished recording an album so putting the finishing touches to that. Our next single and video collaboration with the amazing director Dorothy Allen-Pickard (who we want to thank so much) comes out in October on Whirling Dervish records. Now you see us, now you don’t.
Thanks Muck Spreader!
