‘Goodfellas’ star Ray Liotta dies aged 67

The much loved actor died in his sleep while shooting his latest project in the Dominican Republic.

Per Ray Liotta’s representatives, the actor passed away while he was in the country shooting his latest film, Dangerous Waters. 

His cause of death has not yet been announced, but there is understood to be no suspicion of foul play. Liotta leaves behind his fiance Jacy Nittolo as well as his daughter Karsen.

Liotta had been on a remarkable resurgence over the last few years. Recent roles included The Many Saints of Newark, Marriage Story — for which he shared an Indie Spirit Award for and No Sudden Move. He was due to star in the Working Title film The Substance opposite Demi Moore and Margaret Qualley.

Liotta was born in New Jersey and abandoned at an orphanage before being adopted at six months. After small roles in TV, Liotta received a Golden Globe nomination for 1986’s Something Wild. He went on to star in Field of Dreams in 1989 before taking on the role of Henry Hill in Martin Scorsese’s Goodfellas.

Liotta was offered a role on The Sopranos but turned it down. “I didn’t want to do another mafia thing, and I was shooting Hannibal,” he said to the Guardian. “It just didn’t feel right at the time.” He later starred in The Sopranos prequel movie, The Many Saints of Newark in 2021.

While better known for his big-screen roles, he also starred with Taron Egerton in the Apple TV+ series Black Bird, had a recurring role on Prime Video’s Hanna and starred opposite Jennifer Lopez in the 2016-18 NBC drama Shades of Blue. Liotta won a Primetime Emmy in 2005 for his guest stint on ER.

His other memorable roles included Hannibal, Narc, Blow and Copland.
