From olive tees to baguette bags, here’s HUNGER’s guide to dressing like your go-to ‘girl dinner’

Here is the low-down on how to dress like TikTok’s new favourite culinary trend.

If you’re yet to join in the new TikTok phenomenon of ‘girl dinner’, then where have you been? The low-effort meal is taking the internet by storm, bringing together women worldwide with their abstract snack plates and unusual combinations of deli delights. A plethora of pickles, a slab of creamy brie, and a packet of flamin’ hot monster munch is the vibe. Really, a ‘girl dinner’ can be anything your taste buds desire, it just has to be a world away from your typical balanced hot meal plate of protein and veg.

The famous Mediterranean diet frames the premise of girlies piling their plates high with raw veg and an assortment of dips, with the originator Olivia Maher calling hers “no preparation, just vibes”. Her OG ‘girl dinner,’ which was viewed more than a million times, consisted of butter, cheese, baguette, pickles, grapes, and a glass of red wine, but has since seen iterations from other users with the likes of frozen yoghourt with all the trimmings, pure pickle dinner, and butter pasta with a healthy dose of parmesan.

In celebration of the new culinary trend circling the internet, we feel that you can go one step further and dress like your go-to ‘girl dinner’ this summer. We are already dressing like it’s ‘Tomato Girl Summer’, so let’s go the extra mile and start dressing like our new favourite picky plate…

A side bowl of olives

If you are an olive girl (aren’t we all), then there is a selection of great graphic tees to get your mitts on. Lisa Says Gah!, the California studio, is printing your go-to snacks on their sustainable slow fashion designs. One of their best sellers in particular is the Alex tee, which boasts a selection of printed designs almost as delicious as those behind the deli counter. Up first, of course, is their olive design, which shows a little blue bowl of buttery Castelvetrano olives on a cropped crew neck white tee. Other versions include some salty clams, an assortment of meaty prawns, and delicate anchovies – even some juicy cantaloupes.

Mediterranean dream

If there is anyone who knows how to do luxury Italian picnic dressing, then it’s got to be Dolce & Gabbana. Their new collection delves right into the brand’s DNA in the style of Sicilian Carretto and plasters heritage prints on floaty kaftans and shirts. With their short Carretto-print poplin skirt, you can eat straight off your lap as though you lay out a tablecloth, especially for your olive oil drizzled salad of choice, and perhaps match with their new small Kendra shopper bag to carry all your potted essentials around. In a wicker basket style silhouette and wrapped with a scarf on the handle, you can now take your ‘girl dinner’ Mediterranean salad to wherever you please.

Chilli flakes on *everything*

It really doesn’t matter what you have on your picky bits plate – burrata, croutons, tomatoes, cucumber, noodles, or a side of pasta – there is one essential you simply must sprinkle over the top. Chilli flakes, of course, add that scattering of spice essential to jazzing up your assortment, and thanks to sustainable go-to House of Sunny, you can channel your inner spice on your clothes as well. Their Casa Chilli Applique Shirt with a cropped red mesh silhouette, puff sleeves, and middle clasp hails a pattern of repeated red Cayennes all over. With a slight sparkle and day-to-night transferability, all that’s left is to stick on none other than ‘Dani California’ by the Red Hot Chilli Peppers themselves as you carb up before a night of spicy margs with some friends.

A sweet treat

Stuffed with pickles and piled high from crusty bread rolls – there is still always room for a little something sweet. Whilst it may not be on your ‘girl dinner’ plate, another essential part of womanhood is the urge to sneak out in the early hours to get a sweet treat. Enter a delicate snack of chocolate, may that be white, milk, or dark, with almonds, desiccated coconut, dried fruit, or peanut butter. The choice is entirely yours, but just know that the saunter to the corner shop does not have to be a shlump of an old dressing gown and slippers, and you can preface the purchasing of your naughty nighttime snack with an even naughtier uber-hot mini skirt. Melting together two internet trends of a girly sweet treat and the scandalous Diesel belt skirt, what better garm than the chunky low waist chocolate-coloured belt skirt from their FW22 runway collection?

Baguettes galore

A fashion staple (just ask Carrie Bradshaw) is the Fendi Baguette bag. And a ‘girl dinner’ staple (just ask, well, anyone) is a hunk of Baguette. What could be a better match? The Italian brand’s range of Baguette bags grows every season, including iterations of sequins, the signature double ‘F’ pattern, and a rainbow of colours. Made with Cuoio Romano leather embellished with hand stitching and the classic FF clasp, we are fans of the classic Brown number, that rings a similar hue to the humble long piece of bread itself.

Hot Sauce accessorising

If you know your hot sauce, then you know there is only one brand to keep beside your ‘girl dinner’ at all times: sriracha. And the brand knows it too, creating a Sriracha 2 Go range with a super mini bottle of their signature Huy Fong sauce to clip to your bag so you can keep it with you everywhere you go. The brand also has sriracha socks and tees that read ‘Keep It Spicy’ depending on how hardcore your love for hot sauce truly is.

Snacking on sushi

There is truly nothing better than a big platter of sushi and some comfy sweats – it’s one of life’s few true pleasures. Japanese streetwear brand Human Made knows this all too well, and their sushi-bar-inspired collection serves up some of the coolest seafood roll-printed pieces on the market. Their End. X Human Made sweater features the classic dish of tamagoyaki on the back, wrapped in another ‘girl dinner’ snack of nori seaweed. Made from 100% cotton and adorned with the brand’s heart logo on the front, make sure to keep your soy sauce dripping habits to a minimum to ensure this crisp white number stays fresh for every sushi session you embark on.
