Everything we know about the new David Bowie documentary, ‘Moonage Daydream’

Watch the first trailer for the highly-anticipated doc, brought to you by the director of 'Kurt Cobain: Montage of Heck'.

Soon enough we’ll finally be getting an insight into the artistic wizardry of the legendary David Bowie. The docufilm covering the star’s life, Moonage Daydream, is set to be released this year and will give Bowie fans unprecedented access into the singer’s personal life and his artistic career.

Directed by Brett Morgen (Kurt Cobain: Montage of Heck), the docufilm promises to take viewers on an “immersive” journey via “sublime, kaleidoscopic imagery, personal archived footage, unseen performances” that are inspired by Bowie’s music and words.

Yesterday (July 27th), the first official trailer was released following a teaser revealed in May. The trailer shows off a montage of iconic moments throughout Bowies career and features narration from Ziggy Stardust himself.

Moonage Daydream is the first film to be supported by the David Bowie Estate, which granted Morgen unprecedented access to its collection. Morgen revealed at CinemaCon last month that the estate presented him with more than five hundred assets from Bowie’s archive in 2017.

Included in the collection were “rare and never-before-seen drawings, recordings, films, and journals. Morgen spent four years assembling the film and another 18 months designing the soundscape, animations, and colour palette.”

“Bowie cannot be defined, he can be experienced,” Morgen told the crowd at CinemaCon back in April. “That is why we crafted Moonage Daydream, to be a unique cinematic experience.” He also said he had spent two years “scrolling through every piece of material in the Bowie archive” to craft the film.

The film hits cinemas globally on September 16th this year
