Check out Brendan Murphy’s surreal Rush of Blood to the Head

A new exhibition showcasing the contemporary artist’s beautifully bizarre sculptures and paintings.

In his debut UK solo exhibition, Rush of Blood to the Head, American artist Brendan Murphy explores raw human emotion through creating imaginative equations that reoccur across his artworks. Across his oeuvre, the artist uses these formulas to mimic the randomness and nonsensical decisions the heart seems to make.

Opening at Maddox Gallery in Mayfair on June 27, Murphy’s Rush of Blood to the Head features outlandish series of sculptures and paintings, such as his famous Boonji Spaceman series. The surreal mirrored figures, with his trademark equations scrawled over the body, are “the perfect embodiment of the human desire to look ahead and venture beyond boundaries” according to Murphy.

Mentored under some of the New York’s art scene most notable painters – Eric Fischl, David Salle and Ross Bleckner, Murphy has since day one been an artist who pushes the walls of creativity beyond the confinement of a canvas. Constantly experimenting with a ride range of materials and tools, creating sculptural and concepts pieces that balance narratives of relationships and the unpredictable spectrum of human emotions are what makes Murphy one of the most exciting contemporary artists working today.

Open from 27 June – 20 July at the Maddox Gallery, find out more about the exhibition here.
