Barbie and Ken are officially this season’s trendiest baby names

Names inspired by the dolls have spiked in popularity after the movie's success.

Barbie’s worldwide box office domination has expecting parents thinking plastic when it comes to baby names because everyone is interested in naming their kids after the popular dolls.

BabyNames.com revealed their site has seen a 300% uptick in searches for “Barbie” in the month of July. “Ken” has also blown up, with searches increasing by 200% in the same month. Not as much as Barbie, but that holds up – he’s just Ken.

The fan-favourite character, Allan – played by Michael Cera – has had a positive outcome on the Mattel reseller game … because eBay listings for the rare doll have skyrocketed after the movie’s release.

Sadly, we’re told there’s been no search increase for the name “Allan” when it comes to baby names. Sorry, Allan.

The movie recently surpassed $1bn at the global box office, just 17 days after its premiere and is now the fastest Warner Bros. title – eight in the studio’s history – to achieve this feat, so far. It dethroned Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2, which previously held the record with 19 days.

In addition, it is only the sixth film in the pandemic era to hit $1 billion USD after Spider-Man: No Way Home, Top Gun: Maverick, Jurassic World Dominion and Avatar: The Way of Water. Finally, Gerwig is now the first and only solo female filmmaker with a billion-dollar film.
