AFROPUNK x Shopify’s fashion show brings Black talent to the forefront of the runway

AFROPUNK has partnered up with the Black Build Team at Shopify to create the Black Fashion Accelerator. The intensive program is designed to help nine promising Black fashion designers nurture their talents and grow their businesses in a competitive industry. On July 13th the results of the programme were revealed, allowing the BFA designers the chance to show off their products at Shopify SoHo in New York City.
With help from Christopher Bevans, Senior Creative Lead at Shopify, the BFA Class of 2022 completed a six month intensive programme to prepare them for longstanding careers within the industry.
The fashion exhibition shined a spotlight on the BFA founders, showing off a stunning range of fits from the designers. Jorge Gitoo Wright was welcomed as host for the event and there was a performance from local R&B artist, Laya.
Anita Asante, AFROPUNK’s Head of Global Strategic Partnerships said: “What an absolute privilege it has been to put on this Fashion Accelerator Program in partnership with Shopify and to have an integral part in setting up these exceptional 9 entrepreneurs for future success.”
