A guide to surviving Scorpio season

*Stay tuned for a Scorpio roast*

Not to sound like your gaslighting ex, but we’ve all met a Scorpio that lived up to their sign’s negative characteristics: volatile emotions, jealousy and controlling behaviour. However, that’s only one side of the story. Scorpios also tend to be the kind of magnetic, charismatic go-getters you’d easily confuse with a Leo, and they can make excellent friends, partners and colleagues… If you have the rock-solid boundaries needed to deal with them. As a water sign they’re also the dreamers and thinkers that have access to a deeper emotional spectrum: so it won’t surprise anyone that ultimate sad girl poets Sylvia Plath and Anne Sexton were born under the famed eighth sign of the Zodiac.

Grouped with Sagittarius and Geminis as one of the “problem” Zodiac children, you’d be hard pushed to find anyone (besides a Scorpio, that is) that’s looking forward to the imminent Scorpio season.  Sure to be a time of instability, self-destructive behaviour and generally *going through it* hardcore astrology fans have been preparing themselves all through the more introspective Libra season. If you want some help catching up, read our guide to weathering the Scorpio season storm below.

No matter how much you want to try hot yoga, you’re going to have to wait

Remember that time you got bangs after getting dumped over voicemail? It’s simple but it’s also all too easy to forget: when we’re feeling emotional, we’re a lot less likely to make sensible decisions. Whilst we’re still reeling from some of our regrettable post-breakup looks and Scorpio season missteps, you still have time to save yourself from committing the same faux pas. Heed our advice and have a serious think before making any changes. In particular, be realistic about how much energy and time you can commit to new endeavours after Scorpio season intensity fizzles out.

Self care, self care and, you guessed it, self care!

Ah, self care. Despite being coopted by corporations to sell charcoal face masks, the term can still carry a more political weight. Beyond the influencers pushing scented candles on IG, it’s about resisting an atmosphere of toxic capitalism, patriarchy and white supremacy through radical self love – something I’m sure we can all get behind. It’s also particularly important when manifesting Scorpio energy, given that it’s a sign that feels everything to the max; whether it’s the weight of social justice or Karen from accounting looking at you in the wrong way. Taking some time to focus on yourself and recentre is going to be invaluable to your mental health. But remember, self care looks different to everyone. Whether it’s airing all notifications in the group chat or putting aside a day to rest, read and tackle your laundry pile – remember it’s worthwhile.

Mercury retrograde is going to ruin your Halloween

As we all know, Mercury retrograde is a trash fire of miscommunications, 3G, toxic former friends reaching out and regrettable tweets. This time around, not only is it happening in the heightened emotional landscape of Scorpio season but also on Halloween. If the spirits (both evil and alcoholic) weren’t enough to make this particularly messy, then watch out for the emotional baggage and everybody running around in costume. A nightmare, in more ways than one. Our advice is to stay indoors with your phone at a distance and your front door firmly locked. We know you’re not going to listen though: Scorpio energy does love a party. Just don’t tell us we didn’t warn you!

If you’re that way inclined, don’t be afraid to get a little kinky…

The most well-founded Scorpio trope is that they’re sexually open and adventurous  – something that they deserve to be celebrated for! Being able to communicate their own needs whilst being attuned to their partners’ desires and limits, they could definitely teach the rest of the Zodiac a thing or two. So, even if Scorpio season leaves you an emotional wreck, you can reap the benefits of its positive sexual energy – whatever form that may take. Be bold, be brave and be kinky!
