Who. What. Where? No. 122

Kicking things off with a universally-appreciated item. Fried chicken. But not just any — that of NYC’s cult-favourite fried chicken joint, Pecking House. Luckily for us on this side of the pond, it’s popping up in London this summer at Double Standard at The Standard Hotel, King’s Cross. What makes this particular chicken so special? Well, founder Eric Huang started making it during the pandemic at his uncle’s restaurant in Queens in his signature Taiwanese-American style (think: lots of chilli-oil), and by 2021 it had wracked up a mind-blowing ten thousand person waitlist. Which is exactly why you should taste it out while you can. Book a table between 31 July to 14 September here.

Getting face treatments is all fun and games until you’re left with your skin “sloughing” off for a week (hot). That’s why this week’s ‘What’ is Korean facials — specifically the ones from Montrose London. Using Korean skincare by Civasan Laboratories and Coslab Leze Mediceuticals, they tailor your facial specifically to whatever your skin concerns are. Generally, though, the treatments include enzymatic exfoliation, lymphatic massage and a tailored acidic peel to improve hydration, radiance and skin barrier, as well as giving you a little collagen boost. And the best part is, it’s not painful and there’s no downtime. Book yours here.

Ever wanted to cosplay as a cabbie? Well, at Café Pier, you can do just that. Based in an abandoned cabmen shelter from 1910, the café is an ode to the days when taxi drivers would park up there for a bite to eat. Now it’s open to the public and you can grab a sourdough toastie, bagel or pastry while overlooking Chelsea’s Albert Bridge. And on the weekend, Café Pier actually has a proper al fresco menu featuring charcuterie plates with figs (delish) and classics like dippy eggs and soldiers. Check out their Insta for opening times here.

You guys know by now that we like to include a song each week. Today, our Sound Bite cover star Samira has dropped ‘Cardio’, which is exactly the kind of tune you want to listen to while you’re getting ready to go to the clurb this summer. And fittingly, it’s about a “sexually-confident” woman testing a man’s stamina on the dance floor (and off it, nudge nudge, wink wink). Give it a listen here.

Ever lost a bottle of wine? Me neither, but that would be a very sad day. Where you do want to see the words ‘lost’ and ‘wine’ together in a sentence, though, is Lost Wines at Sessions Arts Club. Inspired by the idea that some of the best wines are the forgotten ones, the series kicked off with Lost Riesling Vol. 1, selected by founders Jonny Gent and Sophie Liverman. This time round, it’s all about Lost Xarel·lo from Can Sumoi, a family vineyard hidden in the Penedès hills near Barcelona that farms the (underrated) Catalan grape. You can either try a glass at Sessions Arts Club or to take a bottle home. It’s super limited, though, so hurry up and book here.
